East Suburban Artists League Meeting Features Origami Tessellation Paper Folding
A type of origami paper folding will be presented by Madonna Yoder at the October 5, East Suburban Artists League (ESAL) meeting.
Madonna Yoder focuses on the infinite potential options in the realm of infinitely repeating geometric patterns folded from a single sheet of paper, also called origami tessellations.
She will demonstrate how designing origami tessellations are like a choose-your-own-adventure book, discuss the evolution of her folding style, and show how these patterns can be translated into fabric manipulation techniques, too.
Madonna has created over 400 original tessellation designs since 2018 and has created a variety of resources for tessellation folders of all levels since 2021. She has been running her own business, Gathering Folds, since 2020, with a focus on creating these patterns and teaching other origami folders how to fold and design them, too.
With a background in geology and ecology from MIT and an abiding love for science fiction sagas, she is a nerd’s nerd and enjoys tending her garden, social dancing, and playing volleyball when she isn’t folding paper.
This fascinating presentation is free and open to the public, at Christ’s Lutheran Church, 5330 Old Logan Ferry Road, Murrysville, in the lower-level meeting room, on Thursday, October 5, at 6:45 pm.
Members share in an art “Show and Tell” at 6:45 pm. The hour-long program begins at 7:00, with the business meeting beginning immediately after a brief break.
ESAL, composed of photographers and artists working in all media, aims to foster arts and crafts and to educate, inspire and encourage artists and patrons in Pittsburgh’s eastern suburbs.
