Art show features works by East Suburban Artist League members

From an article in the Penn Franklin News dated Wednesday, July 25, 2018 about ESAL’s 39th Annual Member’s Show at CCAC Boyce Campus, Monroeville, PA August 4 – September 7, 2018:

The East Suburban Artists League (ESAL) will showcase its 39th annual juried members show at the Community College of Allegheny County’s (CCAC) Boyce Campus in Monroeville, from Aug. 4 through Sept. 7. The show has received wide acclaim each year for the quality and beauty of the nearly 70 works included.

The opening reception of the annual juried Boyce show is Saturday, Aug. 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. with awards and comments by this year’s judge, Diane
Murray, at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited.

Murray is an accomplished artist and photographer from the South Hills of Pittsburgh. She is president of Whitehall Arts; sets up art classes for South Arts; is active in many local art groups including Pittsburgh Watercolor Society, Pittsburgh Pastel Artists League, South Hills Art League and McMurray Art League; and has won various awards for her work. Murray studied drawing, composition, ceramics and design at San Jose State College and has taken many workshops in watercolors, acrylics, photography, oils and pastels. She is skilled in desktop publishing and photography. In her 30+ years of teaching in Pittsburgh Public Schools, she used art to involve her students in writing and reading.  Currently, she teaches and does demos in PanPastels, watercolors, and using an iPad for art.

ESAL artists choose the entries for this show. They work in all types of media, styles and techniques including: paintings in oil, acrylic, water-color and pastels; photography; drawings in ink and pencil; fine crafts in fiber and wood; mixed media; and more.

Murray will choose Best of Show, six Judge’s Awards and 10 Judge’s Mentions from the entries. Many works will be for sale.

The show will be hung in the main entrance hall of CCAC Boyce Campus,
595 Beatty Road, Monroeville and will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Formed in 1965 to serve artists of the suburban areas east of Pittsburgh, the East Suburban Artists League (ESAL) is a non-profit association of artists from communities in Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties.

They meet monthly in Murrysville from Sep-Nov and Feb-May, to foster arts and crafts and to educate, inspire and encourage artists and patrons throughout this area. This is done by lectures, forums, panels and critiques and by League sponsored shows, displays and juried exhibits.
