November Guest Artist Ted Scanga
Ted Scanga speaking on “Wood”
Ted has painted in oils since 1964 and have used acrylics since the 1980’s. Has built furniture in the 80’s and has made most of the furniture in his house. Started wood art after a trip out west where he saw some intarsia and thought he could do it. Started inlay work when he made furniture and started to do inlay art in 2000. He is self taught in painting and in woodworking. Has made many errors and have learned some.
This discussion is about how wood is used to make furniture and art inlays and intarsia. The use of wood in its many colors and grains gives the art beauty and defines shape with the added depth. Trees are an important part of the earths ecosystem and their wood has been used for many things over the years. There are many uses of wood products in art besides wood art such as paper for drawing and water color work . The basic understanding of trees and its wood is a part of knowing how to build an art work. My hope is that this discussion will give you a better feel for the art of woodworking art.
